Eddie Murphy
I’ll precursor with… I’m an 80’s baby. 1985 to be exact! My parents were in to music, so I don’t have the typical “listening to Richard Pryor records” story. I only saw Richard in movies like The Toy (in which he was fuckin HILARIOUS) and Harlem Nights (where his role was more on the serious side). I saw Eddie EVERYWHERE. He WAS comedy. He was on TV. He was a movie star. Coming to America was my dads favorite movie and it is still mine. Watching him play multiple roles like that forever impacted my views on what a comedian can do. Not only was he acting and directing the movie, he had multiple songs on the soundtrack that played throughout the movie. You’d never know how deep the rabbit-hole went unless you did your research.
Sinbad
Sinbad was the first comedian I was aloud to watch. Even though I use to sneak and watch Def Comedy Jam, but those comics were on and off stage in a few minutes. Sinbad introduced me to the “Comedy Special.” Talking about things that I could relate to as a kid.
Kevin Hart
A lot of what I like about Eddie, I also see in Kevin. Being that I’m a comedian myself, I know first hand (or at least I have an idea of) what type of work that man puts in. Every time I look up he has something new about to drop. Something BIG, and this has been consistent for many year now. His work ethic has separated him from even having to do comedy, yet he still will drop a special on that ass and sell out stadium. He is the new standard of greatness in comedy.
